Market strategy

The Group development portfolio focuses on Autism and related neurodevelopmental disorders with few or no approved existing medicines.

The conditions targeted are typically chronic, severe, highly debilitating and under-served – as is the case with our two lead programs focused on Autism and Fragile X syndrome.

Market exclusivity

Due to the lack of licensed medicines for these selected conditions, in some cases we may be able to obtain Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) status for drugs developed by the Group.

ODD typically provides a period of market exclusivity with respect to the relevant product. We are on track for such a scenario with our lead program NPL-2008 in Autism and also NPL-2009 in Fragile X syndrome.

A reduced-risk product portfolio

By seeking new uses for known compounds we aim to reduce the risks and costs normally associated with drug development, and our pipeline products all benefit from a history of known safety profiles and pharmacological properties.

For example in our lead program NPL-2008, fluoxetine, which is no longer under patent protection, is one of the most widely prescribed CNS drugs in history – with an estimated 19 million patient years of exposure in the last 6 years.

Lowering development time through collaboration

Collaboration is also central to our strategy.

It is our vision to be the partner of choice for clinicians and patient advocacy organizations with an interest in Autism and other related conditions such as Fragile X syndrome. So far we have entered into two major collaborative agreements in the US.
